Sebold Claims Second Straight CACC Rookie of the Week Award, Wildgoose Warrants Honor Roll Recognition Â

New Haven, Conn. - (1/3/2017) – For the second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report, Chestnut Hill College freshman guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. Similarly, junior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) appeared on the report as well, garnering her fourth straight CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll recognition in five consecutive weeks of mention. In CACC wins over Holy Family University (73-70 on 12/19) and Georgian Court University (93-90 on 12/30), Sebold averaged 13.0 points-per-game (PPG) while totaling three rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Wildgoose averaged 22.0 PPG in excess of 16 rebounds (8.0/game), three blocks, and two steals.

Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 4-1) brought their 2017 home schedule to a close with a 73-70, whirlwind, CACC victory over Holy Family University. Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) shot the lights out - 8-of-11 (.727) from the field and 6-of-9 (.667) from three point range – in a 22-point first half that gained the Griffins a 43-31 halftime lead. Then, Wildgoose went to work in the second half, scoring five of the Scarlet and Gold's last six points in a heroic 20-point performance. Wildgoose added six rebounds and three blocks to her 20 points, while Sebold contributed seven points, three rebounds, and four assists in the win.

Chestnut Hill College trailed until just after the eight-minute mark (75-74, 7:53) of the fourth quarter at Georgian Court University. Chestnut Hill College's commitment to defense and pursuit of the basket won them the turnover battle, 12-22, and earned 27 chances at the free throw line; the Griffins made the most of those opportunities, scoring 28 points off turnovers and converting 88.9% (24-of-27) of their free chances. It was that stout defense and back-to-back three point baskets from Sebold that fueled the Scarlet and Gold comeback and eventually landed them a 93-90 win over the CACC South rival, Lions. She scored all 19 of the Griffins' bench points, while providing an assist. Wildgoose registered her seventh double-double (24 points, 10 rebounds) of the season and led four Griffins in double figures with a season-high 24 points. She was 7-of-15 (.467) from the floor and 10-of-11 (90.9) from the free throw line, while also making two steals in the process.

The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena after the New Year, as they host Wilmington University in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest on Wednesday, January 3.
