Klein Captures ECC Women’s Bowling Rookie of the Week Award
West Babylon, N.Y. - (2/21/2018) – Leading Chestnut Hill College to a 8-5 record and a seventh place (7th of 14, 16,508 pins) finish at last weekend’s James Brown Invitational, freshman Lauren Klein (Horsham, Pa.) was selected as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women’s Bowling Rookie of the Week.
On the first day of Morgan State University's James Brown Invitational, Chestnut Hill College (39-43) got off to a good start with wins in four of five matches. Sophomore Rebeccah Edelman (Oakford, Pa.) who filled 80% of her frames. She was followed by Klein, who rolled strikes in 78.6% of her frames and led the team in strike percentage with 52.4% success rate.
Chestnut Hill College moved into fifth place after a 3-2 effort on the second day, earning wins over Felician University (918-876) and a pair of ranked teams; #21 Norfolk State University (918-832) and #23 Fayetteville State University (939-844). Klein led the team with a 195.4 pins-per-game average.
The Griffins finished the invitational in seventh place overall with a 1-2 Sunday effort that included a 4-3 comeback win over Youngstown State University. Klein had a strong final day, filling 82.5% of her frames. She earned ninth place overall in the traditional format, which earned her a spot on the James Brown Invitational All-tournament Second Team.
The Chestnut Hill College women's bowling team returns to action on Friday, March 23, when they compete in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship Tournament.
