Win Over Ohio Valley University Earns CACC Weekly Honors for Three Griffins
New Haven, Conn. - (3/12/2018) – Chestnut Hill College’s dramatic 9-8 victory over Ohio Valley University produced three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly accolades as respective Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week awards for freshman midfielder Mickey Holland (Brick, N.J.) and sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Hogan Jr. (Doylestown, Pa.) were complimented by a second straight appearance by senior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.). Hogan totaled nine saves and a ground ball in a second-half performance the quieted the Fighting Scots and allowed the Griffins to rally from a 7-4 halftime deficit. Holland netted the game-winning goal - the first goal of his collegiate career – with 7:06 remaining in the contest- and Klusaritz finished the affair with a team-high five goals.
Staying ahead of the impending nor'easter, Chestnut Hill College and Ohio Valley University met at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Football Stadium for a Tuesday-evening contest. A pair of Klusartiz goals helped the Griffins establish a 3-1 first-quarter lead, but a 6-1 Fighting Scot second quarter heightened the atmosphere heading to the latter half. There, Hogan punished Ohio Valley University for sitting on their 7-4 lead, stopping each ball that came his way while the Fighting Scots surrendered a third-quarter tally to Klusaritz, 7-5. Fortunes truly reversed in final 15 minutes as a rush of early fourth-quarter goals returned Chestnut Hill College to prominence. Senior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) netted the first, unassisted at 14:06, 7-6. On an assist from junior long stick midfielder John Bennett (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), Klusaritz tied the affair, 7-7, at 13:57. And at 8:12, senior midfielder Gerard Lyle (Baldwin, N.Y.) provided the go-ahead goal, 8-7, before Holland’s game winner at 7:06, 9-7.
The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team continues their early-season home schedule on Tuesday, March 13, when they host St. Michael’s College in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Victory Field #1.
