Galatich and Malampy Garner CACC Player and Defensive Player of the Week Awards

New Haven, Conn. - (3/12/2018) – Senior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) totaled 17 points (11 goals and 6 assists), two ground balls, nine draws, and three caused turnovers in Chestnut Hill College’s first two contests of the season to earn the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week award. She was joined on the league’s weekly report by sophomore Kaley Malampy (Ridley Park, Pa.), who garnered the Defensive Player of the Week award with five ground ball recoveries and six caused turnovers.

With a hand in 11 Chestnut Hill College goals, Galantich powered the Griffins to a 16-2 win in Monday’s season opener at Chowan University. The Scarlet and Gold captain located sophomore midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) for the first tally of the game at 28:32 and later inspired a Chestnut Hill College run that buried the Hawks behind an insurmountable 7-1 deficit. She set career-highs in points (11) and goals, scoring six tallies in addition to five assists and a ground ball. Malampy was stellar in the backfield, totaling three ground balls and causing four turnovers that helped spark Galantich and the Griffin offensive.

Wednesday’s contest at Catawba College was truly a tale of two halves as the hosting Indians establishing just enough of a cushion to withstand Chestnut Hill College’s second half surge, 16-15. Galantich and Fitzgerald scored five goals apiece; the former finished with a team-high six points, a ground ball, a career-high nine draws, and three caused turnovers. Malampy recorded two ground balls and two caused turnover, sharing the defensive headlines with senior Gillian Wixted (Bensalem, Pa.) and junior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.).

The Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team returns to action next Wednesday, March 14, when they host East Stroudsburg University in a 4:00 p.m. home opener.
