Darias Draws CACC Men’s Tennis Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. - (3/19/2018) – Helping Chestnut Hill College earn another valuable regional victory, freshman Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) contributed to a number two doubles win and scored the match-clincher at number two singles in a 6-3 triumph over the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) on Saturday. His effort earned him a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll.
Senior Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) combined to give Chestnut Hill College (5-2) the first point of the afternoon with their 8-6 triumph at number three doubles. The Griffins added to the lead with Darias and sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) taking the second team flight by a 9-8 (7-3) score. Number one doubles went to UDC (3-3) by the same final, 9-8 (7-3), before they tied the match, 2-2, with a 6-1, 1-0, retirement win at number four singles. But the Scarlet and Gold reported consecutive wins from senior Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil), Gavin, and Darias - at number five (6-2, 6-1), number six (6-2, 6-2), and number two (6-0, 6-4), respectively – to clinch the affair, 5-2. Each side added a point before the match’s conclusion; Chestnut Hill College padded with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, number three singles win from Gautier prior to the Firebirds’ 6-4, 6-4, win at number one singles.
The Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team continues a tough stretch on Monday, March 19, when they visit National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I member, St. Joseph’s University for a 2:30 p.m. match.
