Gilham and Bethel Garner CACC Honor Roll Recognition on Weekly Report

New Haven, Conn. – (3/31/2018) – The unexpected time off benefitted junior catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), who batted .529 (9-for-17), reached .556 (On-base percentage), and slugged .706, while knocking in five Chestnut Hill College runs during a 3-2 week of play. Meanwhile, freshman Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) completed a strong start by junior Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) in a game-one win at Felician University and later earned his first two collegiate wins in the Griffins consecutive 5-3 comeback wins over the University of the Sciences (USciences). For their efforts, Gilham and Bethel were both recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll.

Competing for the first time in 10 days, Chestnut Hill College visited Felician University for their first CACC doubleheader of the week. The Griffins and Golden Falcons split the twin bill as the Scarlet and Gold provided Cattai with plenty of run support in a 7-2 game-one victory, but came short of the sweep in a 3-1 game-two defeat. Gilham was 4-for-4 with two runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI) in the opener as he tripled home senior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) in the first inning, singled home senior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) in the sixth inning, and plated Owens again in the eighth inning. Bethel provided a scoreless ninth inning, working around a leadoff error at third base.

In between the Griffins league games they visited West Chester University for an afternoon contest. The Golden Rams scored seven runs in their first three at-bats before retiring the Chestnut Hill College by a 13-3 margin.

At Latshaw-McCarthy Field for the first time this season, Chestnut Hill College hosted the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. Freshman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) plated the winning run in both 5-3 finals, plating game one winner with a seventh-inning, pinch-hit double and the game two winner with a two-run, sixth-inning single to left field. Dietz was 2-for-3 with 3 runs-batted-in (RBI) in the twin bill, helping Bethel earn the first two wins of his collegiate career. Bethel toss three innings of scoreless baseball in game one. Limiting the Devils to three hits and a walk, while he struck out three. In game two, he allowed only one hit in two innings of scoreless relief. Meanwhile, Gilham was 3-for-3 and doubled home Nazario for the second Scarlet and Gold run of game one.

The Chestnut Hill College baseball team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 3, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
