Cattai and Craig Collect CACC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. – (4/9/2018) – Junior Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) had his best outing so far this season in the Griffins’ game-one win over Goldey-Beacom, limiting the Lightning to an unearned run on five hits and a walk, while striking out two in a complete game performance. Meanwhile, senior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) offered a .429 (9-for-21)/.538/.857 slash line to produce seven runs and six runs-batted-in over Chestnut Hill College’s most recent six-game stretch. For their effort, both earned mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll.
Freshman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) continued his timely hitting in the first game of Tuesday afternoon's CACC doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College, as his seventh-inning, pinch-hit double gave Cattai enough run support to earn his third win (3-0) of the season. Unfortunately, in game two the Lightning's hurler was on his game, limiting Chestnut Hill College to just three baserunners in a 6-0 final. Craig was hitless (0-for-5) in the twin bill, but drew a walk in each game and stole a base in the second.
CACC play continued on Friday, April 6, for Chestnut Hill College, who hosted Wilmington University for a pair of games at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. A seventh-inning, two-run home run from senior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) highlighted the Griffins' 8-6 game-one loss, while a 3-for-3 effort from sophomore second baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) helped support a complete-game performance from senior Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.). Unfortunately, the Wildcats one the nightcap as well, 6-4. Craig collected two hits (4-for-8), a run, and a run-batted-in (RBI) in each contest.
After a 4-2 loss to Caldwell University in the first game of Saturday’s CACC doubleheader, a determined Chestnut Hill College outfit punished the Cougars in a 20-6 game-two trouncing. Freshman right fielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) recorded three hits (3-for-4) in the opener, but Craig and junior catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) plated the Griffins’ two runs. In the nightcap, the Scarlet and Gold offense exploded, totaling 20 hits and putting up crooked numbers in the first (2), fifth (5), seventh (6), and eighth (4) innings for the program’s 200th win. Craig was 5-for-8 in the twin bill and 4-for-5 in game two, triggering the Griffins’ five-run fifth inning with a leadoff double, before tripling home one run in the seventh inning and two runs in the eighth inning.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 7, when they welcome Jefferson to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
