Galantich Garners CACC Co-Player of the Week, Amaya Earns Honor Roll Accolades

New Haven, Conn. – (4/9/2018) – Senior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and junior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) led Chestnut Hill College to three consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins this week and were  respectively recognized for their play with Co-Player of the Week and Honor Roll accolades on the most recent league report. Galantich recorded 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists), 20 draw controls, six ground balls, and 10 caused turnovers, while Amaya totaled 31 saves in victories over Holy Family University, Caldwell University, and Post University.

Trying to stay warm on a cold and windy Wednesday (April 4) evening at Victory Field #1, Chestnut Hill College outperformed CACC foe Holy Family University in a high-scoring affair, 19-12. The Griffin effort was highlighted by a seven-point (5 goals, 2 assists) performance from junior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) – who offered four goals and an assist in the Griffins’ mid-second half surge - and a pair of five-point efforts from seniors, midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) (3 goals, 2 assists) and Galantich (2 goals, 3 assists). Galantich’s five points came with three ground balls, 10 draws, and two caused turnovers. Amaya made 10 saves in the win (4-4).

Chestnut Hill College secured its second CACC win in as many games with a decisive, 15-9 triumph over Caldwell University on Friday, April 6. Sophomore Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) provided the game-winning goal with 17:38 remaining in the contest, while Galantich headlined the success with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists). She added a ground ball, nine draws, and a caused turnover to her seven point performance. Amaya (5-4) played a majority of the minutes (47:30) in goal and finished the affair with nine saves and a ground ball.

Thanks in large part to Galantich, it was a celebratory performance on Sunday, April 8, for Chestnut Hill College, who cruised to a 20-7 CACC win at Post University. The Griffin captain netted the 100th goal of her collegiate career with 16:32 (3-2) remaining in the first half to become the ninth Griffin to reach the century mark and finished the contest with seven points in all, thanks to a career-high six goals and an assist. She added two ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover to her historic performance. Amaya (6-4) made a dozen (12) saves, collected two ground balls, and caused a turnover.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 10, when they visit Felician University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
