Howell Hauls in Third CACC Rookie of the Week, Klusaritz Collects Honor Roll Mention

Waterbury, Conn. – (4/14/2018) – Totaling 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists), nine ground balls, and a caused turnover, freshman attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) earned his third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on the league’s latest report. Senior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) garnered an Honor Roll mention with eight goals, three assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover during a 1-2 week of competition against St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC), Felician University, and Post University.

Tuesday evening’s men’s lacrosse contest went down to the wire and ended with Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 2-1) on the wrong side of a 7-6 overtime decision at STAC (5-6). Howell and sophomore attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) scored two goals apiece, the former added two assists, four ground balls, and a caused turnover to finish the contest as the Griffins’ top performer. Klusaritz and junior attack Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.) recorded the other two Griffin goals, while sophomore Blake Turner (Tampa, Fla.) won 12-of-17 (.706) face-offs and grabbed seven ground balls to help Chestnut Hill College compete with the Spartans.

Chestnut Hill College recovered from the overtime loss with Wednesday’s decisive 17-7 CACC triumph over Felician University (0-9, 0-2). Klusaritz headlined the performance, matching his season-high for goals with six tallies, the third of which pushed him over the 100-goal threshold. He is the second Griffin to achieve such a feat, joining Scarlet and Gold great Michael Melnychenko ’14 as the only members of the program prestigious club. Klusaritz added a ground ball to the historic performance. Howell finished with five points (1 goal, 4 assists) and five ground balls, while three other Griffins offered multiple point efforts.

Chestnut Hill College’s CACC season continued on Saturday, April 14, at Post University (2-9, 2-1) where the Eagles paced the Griffins to a narrow, 7-6, final. The Scarlet and Gold played catch up for most of the match, pulling even on a Klusaritz goal with 7:04 (5-5) remaining in the third quarter, but coming up a tally short as the home side scored last in a one-goal spread. Klusaritz finished the contest with a goal, three assists, and two ground balls. Howell contributed a goal and an assist in the loss.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse team returns to Victory Field #1 on Tuesday, April 17, for a 7:00 p.m. Senior Night contest against CACC rival, Georgian Court University.
