Johnson’s Defensive Player of the Week Title Headlines Griffin Trio on CACC Men’s Soccer Report
New Haven, Conn. – (9/4/2018) – Senior midfielder Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) delivered three shots while captaining the Chestnut Hill College midfield during a 1-1 week at Shippensburg University and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) to earn the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Award. He was joined on the league’s weekly report by senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Saó Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore goalkeeper Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.), who both garnered Honor Roll recognition.
Domingues played the point in Thursday (August 30) night’s 3-1 season-opening win at Shippensburg University, locating fellow senior, forward Jason Burns (Reading, Pa.) for the game’s first goal at 53:26 and later finding the head of junior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) for the third Griffin goal (89:22). A last-second (89:59) penalty kick allowed the Raiders to break the shutout as Hernandez made eight saves prior to surrendering the free kick. Johnson took two shots while anchoring a Griffin defense that held the Raiders scoreless for nearly the full 90 minutes (89:59). In addition to his two assists, Domingues provided a team-high four shots.
A four-goal effort by senior forward Alex Satrustegui (Pamplona, Spain) was more than enough for Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) to overcome Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, September 1, as the Penmen secured an efficient 5-0 victory with a 14-10 shot advantage. Three Griffins recorded two shots apiece, while Hernandez made two saves in the loss.
