Dutra’s Overtime Winner Warrants CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/10/2018) – With 56 seconds (99:04) remaining in overtime, junior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) used a perfect strike to a corner restart to provide a dramatic conclusion to Chestnut Hill College’s Saturday, September 8, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener versus Bloomfield College (W, 1-0 (OT)). For his game-winning effort, Dutra earned a mention on the league’s Weekly Men’s Soccer Honor Roll.

Overtime was required to settle Saturday’s CACC season opener versus Bloomfield College as a scoreless regulation precipitated an extra frame. There, Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-0) emerged the victor with 56 seconds (99:04) remaining as conclusion as senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) played the corner restart to an unmarked Dutra, whose mid-pitch strike served as the game-winning-goal in a 1-0 final.

A bit of foreshadowing, Chestnut Hill College targeted Dutra for their first two shots of the affair. Unfortunately, despite a 9-6 shooting advantage, the Griffins were unable to crack the Bloomfield College (0-3, 0-1) defense. The Scarlet and Gold defense was just as impressive, denying the Bears a single first half scoring opportunity. In the second half, play evened out, but provided no conclusion as both sides were unsuccessful on four attempts. The extra period saw Bloomfield College have a chance (92:01), before a pair of strikes from junior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) were brushed aside by the visitor’s defense. Fortunately, a late corner kick opportunity provided Dutra with his game-winning strike. Dutra totaled a team-high five shots, while sophomore forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) (3 shots), freshman midfielder David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) (2), and senior forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) (2) had their chances as well.

Dutra also recorded four shots – three on goal – in the Griffins’ 6-2 loss at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) on Tuesday, September 4.
