Banks’ Save Spectacular Secures Share ofCACC Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Title
New Haven, Conn. - (10/2/2018) – A 17-save effort in Chestnut Hill College’s 0-0 double overtime tie with Post University earned sophomore goalkeeper Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.) a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Goalkeeper of the Week award. She split the honor with her counterpart in the contest, the Eagles’ Cheyenne Grim (Gettysburg, Pa.) who totaled nine saves in the 110-minute stalemate. Banks' 17 saves tied her for second all-time at Chestnut Hill College for most saves in a single game (Samantha Pauls at Adelphi, 9/4/2014).
Post University (2-6-2, 2-3-1) tested Chestnut Hill College's (2-6-1, 1-4-1) keeper in the first period with 13 shot attempts. Banks' gallant effort allowed for the Griffins to keep the match even as senior defender Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.), senior midfielder
Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.), junior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J), freshman forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.), and freshman defender Haley Oneill (Langhorne, Pa.) attacked the net. The first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock as did the second half, despite 10 shots from both sides. The first overtime frame mirrored the first two halves. Post University pressured the Griffin's defense, but Banks stepped up to the challenge saving four of their six shot attempts. The Griffins only recorded one shot attempt, but also came away empty handed, triggering another 10 minutes, 0-0. The final overtime period was no different, ultimately ending the game in a scoreless tie, 0-0.
Chestnut Hill College's women's soccer team will host a Pack the Place event on Tuesday, October 2, when they host Holy Family University for a 7:00 p.m. CACC contest at Victory Field #1.
