Women’s Tennis Headlines CACC Weekly Release
New Haven, CT – (9/13/2011) – Depth has paid off thus far for the Griffins, as Chestnut Hill College was represented by junior
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and freshman
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly release. Parapouras earned Player of the Week honors and Oechsle was named the Rookie of the Week after opening the year with perfect 4-0 records in both singles and doubles play.
At number two doubles, Parapouras and Oechsle combined for a 4-0 record in the first week of competition. The duo defeated opponents from Molloy College, St. Thomas Aquinas College, the New York Institute of Technology, and Caldwell College, only needing a tie-breaker to top the Bears senior Melanie Hoffer (Dix Hills, NY) and freshman Rocio Benavent (Valencia, Spain), 9-8 (7-3). They managed just as well individually, Parapouras 4-0 at number three singles and Oechsle 4-0 at number four singles, to lead Chestnut Hill College (6-0, 3-0) on a strong start of the 2011-2012 season.
The women’s tennis team will compete next as individuals at the 2011 United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Tournament on Saturday, September 17. Play is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Arthur Ashe Jr. Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
