Callahan Collects CACC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. – (10/13/2018) – Junior middle hitter Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) scored a team-high 33 points during last week’s 2-1 record versus Wilmington University (L, 0-3; 18-25, 17-25, 19-25, on October 9), Queens College (W, 3-0; 25-11, 25-19, 25-10, on October 11), and the University of the Sciences (USciences) (W, 3-1; 26-24, 25-22, 17-25, 25-16, on October 13) to earn her second appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll. Callahan also appeared on the league’s weekly Honor Roll on September 10 after garnering all-tournament recognition at the Wildcat Regional Invitational (September 7-8).
Concluding their first CACC South Division series of the season, Chestnut Hill College (7-15, 4-8) visited Wilmington University (15-9, 9-3) for Tuesday night's league match. Unfortunately, the Wildcats got revenge for the Griffins' September victory, landing seven aces and forcing the Scarlet and Gold into 24 hitting errors to earn a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) win. Callahan led Chestnut Hill College with 13.5 points on a dozen (12) kills, an ace, and a block assist. Senior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) provided an assist on 26 of the Scarlet and Gold's 28 kills, while joining Callahan as one of four Griffins with double digit digs. Callahan added an assist, and 10 digs to her 13.5 points.
Posting their third .300-plus hitting performance of the season (.329, 33K-7E-79TA), Chestnut Hill College completed their non-conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-10) victory at Queens College. Freshman right side Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) recorded a team high 10 points (9 kills, 1 ace) and three others recorded at least seven points thanks to 26 assists Sutton. In addition to their efficient hitting, the Griffins also recorded a dozen (12) aces, which is their fifth double digit ace performance of the season. Callahan was one of three Griffins to provide seven kills in a complimentary role. She also recorded two assists and a team-high 10 digs.
The Scarlet and Gold’s CACC season continued on Saturday, October 13 as the Griffins stayed local for a league match at USciences. In victory, the Griffins offered a balanced attack as Sutton supplied 41 assists to four teammates who scored double digit kills in a 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 17-25, 25-16) triumph over the Devils. Sophomore middle hitter Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) led the Scarlet and Gold’s high-scoring quartet, offering career-highs in points (16.0) and kills (14). Callahan was one of two others, who recorded 10 kills. She finished her double-doubles a dozen (12) digs, while also providing three assists and a pair (2) of aces.
