Pitchley Picked as CACC Rookie of the Month, Gautier Graces October Honor Roll
 
New Haven, Conn. - (11/5/2018) – Chestnut Hill College finished their fall schedule with a 3-0 mark, thanks largely in part to the play of freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) and junior Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) who were both honored on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis October Report. Pitchley, who scored a pair of individual wins in the top singles flight, was named the CACC Rookie of the Month, while Gautier went undefeated (3-0 @ #3 singles, 3-0 @ #2 doubles) to garner Honor Roll recognition.
 
Playing for the first time since the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships, Chestnut Hill College (3-0) officially began their 2018-2019 match schedule with a 5-2 non-conference win at Jefferson (1-2) on October 3. The Griffins won the doubles points with their respective 6-2 and 6-4 wins in the third and second flights, then secured the match with individual wins at number four (6-3, 7-5), number three (6-0, 7-6), number six (6-1, 6-2), and number five (6-4, 6-4) singles. The Scarlet and Gold earned their first point with a 6-2 win in the third flight. It was followed by a 6-4 number two doubles win from Gautier and sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela), which clinched the doubles point for the Griffins, 1-0. Unfortunately, Chestnut Hill College was unable to sweep the round as Jefferson (1-2) earned a 6-4 win at number one doubles. The Griffins’ initial point of individual play came at number four singles, 6-3, 7-5. Soon after, Gautier made it 3-0 with his 6-0, 7-6, win at number three singles. But that is when the Rams responded, closing to within one point with back-to-back wins at number two (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and number one (6-4, 7-6 (11-9)) singles, 3-2. Chestnut Hill College finally added the clincher at number six singles, where junior Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) offered a 6-1, 6-2, victory.
 
Chestnut Hill College continued their fall season on Tuesday, October 9, with an afternoon match at West Chester University. The Griffins used a 6-0 victory at number two doubles and a 6-1 win at number three doubles to secure the first point of the match, before cementing a 7-0 victory with six straight singles wins. Gautier and Darias scored the first point of the afternoon for Chestnut Hill College with their 6-0 win at number two doubles and eventually swept the round with a 6-2 number one doubles win from Pitchley and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia). The Griffins continued their winning ways as individuals, claiming victory in each individual match. Gavin scored the first of six straight Griffins' singles points with his 6-1, 6-0, win in the sixth flight. The other five all ended by 6-0, 6-1, scores and were respectively provided by Pitchley (#1), Darias (#2), Gautier (#3), Jorsal (#4), and freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) (#5).
 
The Scarlet and Gold’s successful fall season came to a close on Saturday, October 13, with a 7-0 victory at Kutztown University (0-2). Chestnut Hill College had a leg up on their competition as a light Kutztown University forfeited wins in the third doubles and sixth singles flights. The Griffins’ earned the team point with successive wins at number one (7-6) and number two (6-2) doubles, then proceeded to a shutout triumph with a sweep of individual play. Pitchley and Jorsal combined for the Chestnut Hill College win at number one doubles, 7-6. In the second flight it was Gautier and Darias who were victorious, 6-2. Pitchley won the point at number one singles, enduring for a 7-6, 5-7, 10-3, victory, Meanwhile, Gautier offered a 6-1, 6-1, win in the third flight.
