McWade Warrants CACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (11/19/2018) – Senior forward Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) has been a steadying presence in the Chestnut Hill College lineup during first two weeks of the 2018-2019 season. This week, he averaged 12.5 points per game (PPG) and 5.5 rebounds per game (RPG), while making two assists and a block in a 1-1 week versus the University of Delaware (L, 100-62 on November 13) and Queens College (W, 62-55 on November 17). The effort earned him a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Chestnut Hill College (2-2) visited the University of Delaware (2-1) for this Tuesday evening’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I crossover. Comfortable on their home court, the Blue Hens used a 54.7% (35-of-64) field goal percentage to separate for a 50-28 halftime lead – an advantage that was more than enough to cover the Scarlet and Gold’s 34-point second half - in a 100-62 final. Three Griffins finished in double figures, including McWade (11 points), freshman forward Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) (11), and senior guard Cartier Talford (Reading, Pa.) (10). McWade added six rebounds and a steal to his 11 points, while Butler’s 11 points came with four rebounds. Talford finished with 10 points and three rebounds.

Saturday’s home opener against Queens College (0-4) marked McWade’s first contest in Sorgenti Arena since January 14, 2017. The Scarlet and Gold captain joined forces with freshman guard Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) to lead Chestnut Hill College to victory. The Knights controlled the early segment of the first half, but Pitts' nine-points helped the Griffins grab the lead, 17-15, midway (9:41) through the frame. Unfortunately a Knights’ reprise allowed the visitors to head to the locker rooms with a 27-26 halftime advantage. After intermission, Queens College grew their lead to as many as eight points, 41-33 (14:03), but a series of consecutive buckets from McWade and Pitts tied the affair, 41-41, just after the 12-minute mark (11:44) and inspired 15-2 run that earned the Griffins a 48-43 advantage with 8:30 left to play. From there, free throws helped Chestnut Hill College sustain one last Knight rally, 50-49 (6:52), until a more sufficient nine-point advantage, 59-50 (3:19), could be provided in the 62-55 final. McWade hit 5-of-8 (.625) from the floor and 4-of-5 (.800) from the free throw line to finish the affair with a season-high 14 points. He also recorded five rebounds and one assist. It was his third double digit scoring effort in four games.
