Season-High Scores Crim CACC Rookie of the Week, Sebold Secure Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (12/17/2018) – Thanks to the perimeter play of freshman guard Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) and sophomore guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College was a 69-63 victor in Saturday’s (December 15) non-conference contest versus Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). For their efforts, Crim was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week and Sebold earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition.

Head Coach Mike West looked inside-out at the start of the contest, targeting senior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) in the paint and juxtaposing Sebold on the perimeter until a three-point play from Crim cleared Chestnut Hill College (2-7) an eight point lead, 13-5, with just under three minutes (2:58) remaining in the first quarter. SCSU (7-4) scored the last points of the period with a three point basket at 1:17, 13-8, and they remained down five points, 17-12, with 5:23 remaining in the second quarter, but a pair of back-to-back Crim three pointers that delivered the Scarlet and Gold an 11 point lead, 23-12, just 43 seconds later (4:40). The Griffins kept their distance at double digits for halftime, 34-22, by holding the Owls to a 19.4% (7-of-36) first half shooting effort and forcing seven turnovers.

SCSU shot better in the second half (14-of-36, .389), but Chestnut Hill College improved equally (.333, 9-of-27 FG - .500, 13-of-26 FG) and outrebounded the Owls, 16-7, to overcome a 13-3 turnover discrepancy. The Scarlet and Gold turnovers allowed the Owls to mount a fourth quarter rally that narrowed an early 17-point, 56-39 (7:57), differential to just six points, 66-60, with 28 seconds (0:28) remaining. Fortunately, the rally ran short on time as the Griffins endured for a 69-63 victory.

Crim supported her season-high 22 points with two rebounds and an assist. She hit 4-of-9 (.444) from three point range and hit all four of her free throw attempts (4-of-4, 1.000) in the process. Sebold added eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals to her 18 points.
