DiGiovanni Game-Winner Against Eagles
Earns CACC Honorable Mention
New Haven, CT – (9/27/2011) – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) recognized sophomore midfielder
Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) with an honorable mention among this week’s award winners for her game-winning penalty kick at Post University, on Saturday, September 24. DiGiovanni added the finishing touch on a three-goal, second-half run that brought the Griffins to a 3-2 win over the Eagles.
After falling behind 2-0 early in the closing period, Chestnut Hill College (4-4, 2-2) was desperate for a spark against Post University (1-5, 1-2). The Griffins finally broke through the Eagle defense at 56:52, then just past the 82-minute mark (82:06); the Griffins tied the CACC contest, 2-2, off the bending corner kick of sophomore midfielder
Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ). With momentum in hand, DiGiovanni would score the game-winner on a penalty kick with just 4:50 remaining in regulation, 3-2.
DiGovanni totaled four shots this week in addition to her sixth goal of the season. She ranks second on the team in goals (6), points (13), and shots (17), while recording two game-winning goals and two converted penalty kicks.
The women’s soccer team continues CACC play on Tuesday, September 27, when they host Goldey-Beacom College in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
