Winn Earns CACC Weekly Honor Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (3/11/2019) – During a 3-4 closing stretch at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, senior third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) batted .500 (7-for-14) with a stolen base (1-for-1, 1.000), eight runs, and six runs-batted-in (RBI) to earn a mention of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll. She was 3-for-3 and reached on a beam ball against Penn State Schuylkill to offer a stolen base, four runs, three RBI to the Griffins’ 17-1, five-inning victory. Winn also recorded multiple hits in a 3-0 win over Union College (Ky.) (2-for-3, R, RBI) and a 6-1 loss to Mansfield University (2-for-4, RBI).

Chestnut Hill College (5-4) was victorious in both of Monday’s endeavors, shutting out Union College (Ky.) (7-9) after dismissing Penn State Schuylkill (0-4) by a 16-run margin. Against the Nittany Lions, Winn led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, stole second base, and eventually scored on a one-out single from senior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.). She singled in a pair of runs with one out in the second inning, another in the third inning, and later got beamed to score her fourth run on a fourth-inning, pinch hit, grand slam by Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.). Winn continued to hit in the second game of the day, singling in the first and fifth innings to help Chestnut Hill College post a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs. She led off the first inning with a single, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), and later rounded third base on a two-out single through the left side from junior shortstop Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.) only to be thrown out at the plate. In the fifth inning, she singled home junior second baseman Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) before scoring on a two-out error by the Bulldog first baseman.

Chestnut Hill College dropped both of Wednesday’s contests at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic as they were outslugged Barton College, 11-8, before falling to Mansfield University by a 6-1 end. Junior pitcher Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) suffered her first loss (2-1) of the season against the Mountaineers, while Winn (2-for-4) and freshman designated player Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) (2-for-3) recorded two hits apiece with the former knocking in the latter as the Griffins' only run of the affair.

Winn reached first base in her second at-bat versus Barton College, enduring a one-out beam ball before scoring on a throwing error by the Bulldog first baseman. The same result happened in the fifth inning, where she reached on a fielder’s choice and moved into scoring position on a two-out walk, before scoring on an error by the Bulldog shortstop. In a five-run sixth inning, Winn reached and knocked in a run on a one-out error by the Barton College left fielder. She later came around to score her third run on another miscue by the Bulldog shortstop, 9-8. Unfortunately, the big inning was not enough for the Griffins to overcome Barton College, who used a pair of sixth-inning runs to ensure an 11-8 victory.
