Amaya Captures Third Straight CACC Goalkeeper Of the Week Award, Fitzgerald Finds Honor Roll
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - (3/7/2019) – Senior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) (1-2) recorded a dozen (12) saves and a ground ball in a 16-7 loss to #7 East Strousburg University (ESU), but garnered her third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week award. Junior midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) scored twice (21:31, 18:58) in the early going in addition to recording two ground balls, four draws, and a caused turnover to earn a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

After 21 minutes of competitive lacrosse, ESU (2-1) distanced themselves from Chestnut Hill College (1-2) for a 9-3 halftime spread, and therefore, an eventual 16-7 final. The scoring started early in the first half with sophomore attack Krista Mitarotonda (Rockaway, N.J.) recording a goal for ESU at 26:28, 1-0. The Scarlet and Gold answered soon after with a successful free position shot, 1-1 (24:52). Over the next six minutes, the Warriors and Griffins traded goals twice with Fitzgerald's second score left the affair in a 3-3 (18:58) stalemate. Unfortunately, Mitarotonda then took control of the contest, scoring the next three goals (17:50, 12:38, 10:04) and triggering a 6-0 Warrior run to halftime, 9-3. Following intermission, three more East Stroudsburg University goals (29:06, 27:31, 24:10) increased the deficit to nine goals, 12-3 (24:10). At that point, Scarlet and Gold goals from Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.) (12-4, 22:58) and Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) cut the Warrior lead to 12-5 (20:55). Nevertheless, East Stroudsburg University responded with another run, this time scoring four straight (19:16, 17:58, 16:34, 8:35) before senior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) (16-6, 3:27) and Norwillo (16-7, 0:19) respectively scored the final two goals of the game.
