Amaya, Malampy, Reinert Reel in CACC Weekly Awards
New Haven, Conn. - (3/18/2019) – Senior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) recorded 13 saves, senior defender Kaley Malampy (Ridley Park, Pa.) hustled to 10 ground balls, and senior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) totaled six points (4 goals, 2 assists), to lead the Chestnut Hill College effort in a 17-11 loss at Shepherd University. Their performances against the Rams respectively earned the trio the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Honor Roll titles.
Shepherd University (2-3) and Chestnut Hill College (1-3) traded two-goal runs in the opening 10 minutes, 2-2 (21:14), afterwards the Rams outscored the Griffins to a 6-4 halftime spread. Junior attack Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) scored both of her goals in the opening half (22:40, 6:42), with additional Scarlet and Gold goals coming from Reinert (2-2, 21:14) and junior Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.) (5-4, 4:42). In the second half, an initial two-goal Shepherd University run doubled the margin to 8-4. Reinert twice offered replies (22:29, 19:02), but it was not enough to disrupt the Rams, who outscored the Griffins 8-5 the rest of the way, 17-11.
Amaya (1-3) also offered five ground balls and a caused turnover to her fourth straight CACC Goalkeeper of the Week performance. Malampy additionally caused a pair of turnovers, while Reinert also offered six draw controls and two ground balls.
