Adler and Gautier Garner CACC Rookie and Player of the Week Awards

New Haven, Conn. – (3/18/2019) – The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams engaged the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and visited Loyola University Maryland in last week’s dual match action. Freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) contributed to five points and juniors Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) to six points during the Griffins’ 2-1 week to respectively earn the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Rookie and Player of the Week awards.

In tandem, the Griffins’ tennis teams traveled to our Nation's capital on Tuesday, March 12, to visit UDC (0-3) for a pair of dual matches. Chestnut Hill College (8-3) got a head start in the men's match as the shorthanded Firebirds forfeited at number three doubles and number six singles. After winning the remaining doubles matches, Chestnut Hill College continued to control the match during individual play. There, Gautier scored the clincher – the third of six straight Scarlet and Gold singles wins - in the third flight, 6-1, 6-3.

On Friday, March 15, the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams played their first spring match on their home courts as they hosted NYIT in an afternoon twin bill. The Griffin men won the first and last completed doubles matches to carry the early advantage, but the Bears evened the score with two of the first three singles flights to finish. Fortunately, back-to-back Scarlet and Gold victories at number five and number four singles - from Adler and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia), respectively - sealed an eventual 5-2 Chestnut Hill College victory.

In Sunday’s dual match action at Loyola University Maryland, the Griffin men scored their point in doubles play as they swept the Greyhounds in reverse order. Unfortunately, the Greyhounds served much stronger as individuals and answered with singles sweep that traded fortunes in a 6-1 final. Adler and sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) were the first Griffin duo to claim victory over Loyola University (2-3), doing so with their 6-0 win at number three doubles. Next, juniors, Gautier and Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) retired their Greyhound counterparts by a 6-2 measure. Jorsal and freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) completed the round with their 6-0 win in the top team flight, 1-0. Unfortunately, the Jorsal and Pitchley win was the last the Griffins would earn in the match as Loyola University swept singles play.
