Perfect Pitchley Earns CACC Player and Rookie of the Week Titles
Millersville, Pa. – (4/7/2019) – Freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) finished a 4-0 week with a perfect 8-0 record and scored the match-winners against the University of the Sciences (USciences) and Post University to earn the latest Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week awards.
Chestnut Hill College (14-4, 4-1) resumed their league schedule on Monday, April 1, with an afternoon match at Jefferson. There, the Griffins secured a 7-0 victory over their local league rival with a clean sweep of both doubles and singles play. Freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) provided the match-winner with his 6-2, 6-2, triumph at number four singles. Pitchley and Jorsal scored the Griffins’ their first doubles win in the top team flight with a 6-0 victory. After Adler’s singles win, Jorsal, Pitchley, and freshman Thibault Gasser (Anglet, France) respectively provided additional wins in the third (6-2, 6-3), first (6-3, 6-4), and sixth (8-0) singles matches.
The Griffins scored their third CACC victory of the season with Wednesday's 7-0 triumph over USciences. The Devils' only win came at number two doubles (6-4) as the Griffins bookended the visitor's victory with wins at number one (6-3) and number three (7-6, (7-2) doubles, 1-0, before completing the shutout with six straight singles wins. Pitchley and Jorsal earned the first Chestnut Hill College win of the afternoon with their 6-3 victory at number one doubles. Later, Pitchley’s 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, win at number one singles clinched the Griffin victory.
Chestnut Hill College emerged victorious from Saturday's highly competitive CACC match at Post University as a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, number one singles triumph by Pitchley dramatically brought the contest to a close, 4-3. Pitchley and Jorsal secured the Griffins' first point of the match with their 7-6 (7-2) victory at number one doubles; the point proved extremely valuable as the Eagles and Griffins split the remaining singles points.
The Scarlet and Gold continued their current winning streak with Sunday’s 7-0 victory at Millersville University. The Griffins won the doubles point early and posted wins at number five (6-3, 6-1), number four (6-2, 6-2), and number two (6-3, 6-3) singles to defeat the Marauders; sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) supplied the match-winner. Pitchley and Jorsal started Chestnut Hill College on the right path with their 6-4 win at number one doubles.
The following 6-4 number three doubles win from freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) and Darias secured the Griffins the doubles point, 1-0, as Millersville University (5-13) recorded their only win at number two doubles, 7-6 (8-6). In singles play, the Griffins won the match with three consecutive individual victories. Pitchley’s 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, win at number one singles ended the affair.
