Pitchley Repeats as CACC Men’s Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week

New Haven, Conn. – (4/16/2019) – Chestnut Hill College freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) repeated as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player and Rookie of the Week as he enjoyed an 4-0 effort in recent league wins over Jefferson (W, 7-0 on April 13) and Post University (W, 5-2 on April 14). The Griffins extended their recent winning streak to six matches with victories over the Rams and Eagles; Pitchley scored the match-winner at Post University with his 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, win at number one singles. Pitchley is the program's first student-athlete to earn the league's Player and Rookie of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks; Pierre Kohler is the only other Griffin to win both titles twice in the same season, doing so on March 7, 2016, and April 18, 2016.

Chestnut Hill College (16-4, 6-1) continued to their recent winning streak and swept their season series with Jefferson (5-9, 1-6) thanks to Saturday afternoon's 7-0 CACC victory. After sweeping the doubles round, the Griffins added individual victories by junior Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) (6-0, 6-0, @ #3), sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) (6-4, 6-2, @ #2), and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia) (6-1, 6-4, @ #4) to clinch the win.

The Griffins earned the 1-0 edge with a sweep of doubles play; Gautier and junior Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) secured the first win in the second flight (6-0), their victory was followed by Scarlet and Gold wins number one (6-2) and number three (7-5) doubles, 1-0. The Scarlet and Gold’s success continued in singles, where Gautier, Darias, and Jorsal scored the match-winners, 4-0. Chestnut Hill College also enjoyed individual victories in the fifth (6-2, 6-4), first (6-3, 7-6 (7-4), and sixth (8-1) singles flight, thanks to the respective efforts of freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany), Pitchley, and Gavin, 7-0.

Chestnut Hill College pinned down another valuable CACC win on Sunday evening as they avoided some afternoon sprinkles and defeated Post University by a 5-2 final, at nearby Magarity Tennis Club. A 7-5 win from Pitchley and Jorsal at number one doubles earned the Griffins the doubles point, 1-0, before singles wins from Darias (W, 6-3, 6-2, @ #2), Gavin (W, 7-6, 6-2, @ #6), and Pitchley (W, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, @ #1) clinched the league victory.
