Wise Earns Share of CACC Softball Pitcher Of the Week Award with Back-to-Back Shutouts
New Haven, Conn. – (4/22/2019) – Junior Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) threw a pair of complete game shutouts in wins over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals Dominican College (W, 2-0 on April 17) and the University of the Sciences (USciences, W, 2-0 on April 18) to earn a share of the league’s Softball Pitcher of the Week award. Wise totaled 16 innings of scoreless softball, limiting the Lady Chargers and Devils to six hits and seven walks, while striking out 10.
Wise was dominant in her ninth win (9-7) of the season, scattering five Dominican College (18-17, 13-7) hits and walking three, while striking out four in a complete game shutout, 2-0. She helped herself with a run-scoring single in the second inning and benefitted from a second-inning sacrifice fly from senior catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth. N.J.). The second game of the CACC doubleheader was tight as well, but this time the Chargers defeated Chestnut Hill College (15-21, 10-12), 2-1, thanks to a one-out, walk-off single from senior catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.).
Chestnut Hill College also split Thursday's CACC doubleheader with USciences as they won game one 2-0, before dropping an 8-7 nail-bitter in game two. The Griffins' game one win - the 15th of the year - went down in the program history books for most wins in a single season at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level (14, 2017). Wise only allowed one hit and logged six strikeouts to aid in game one victory. The win was her 10th (10-7) of the season, tying Briannen Holloway ’17 for the program’s all-time, single-season mark. The Devils won game two, 8-7.
