Alan Garabedian

Alan Garabedian joined the Chestnut Hill College tennis coaching staffs as an assistant amidst the spring of the 2017-2018 season and took over the head coaching position for each team prior to the start of the 2018-2019 seasons. Garabedian brings an extensive amount of tennis experience to the Griffins with over 20 years of Top-10 Middle States Men’s Open Division and Top-5 Middle States Men’s Over 35 competition, as well as, four years as an National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athlete at St. Joseph’s University (1971-1975).
 
As a student-athlete at St. Joseph’s University, Garabedian was a three-year captain and served as the Hawks number-one player. He was also the only player in program history to be invited to the NCAA Division I Championships. Garabedian graduated from St. Joseph’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management. He parlayed that degree into a career in the hospitality field, currently operating as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Remington Hotels (Sheraton Bucks County Hotel, 2011-present) with similar past positions. Garabedian saw great success in this field, as he was named Director of Sales of the Year in 1999 with subsequent nominations in 2012, 2013, and 2016.
 
Staying involved in the tennis community after college, Garabedian was the head tennis pro and manager of various Country Clubs, including the Meadowlands Country Club (1975), Radnor Valley Country Club (1975-1977) and the Pennsbury Racquet Club (1978-1981). He later coach at the high school level, directing Cardinal O’Hara High School’s boys’ team to a league championship in 1981, Gwynedd-Mercy High School’s girls’ team to a league championships in 1982, 1983, and 1984, and Upper Dublin High School’s girls’ team to league championships in 1985, 1986, and 1987. His consistent success inspired him to coach at the collegiate level, taking on the head coaching positions at Montgomery Community College (1985-1986) and Widener University (1987-1989).
 
As a professional in the Middle States Men’s Open Division, Garabedian was sponsored by Kawasaki and ranked seventh in the country for the National Father & Son section. He later became a certified teaching pro for the United States Tennis Association (USTA), and instructor through Gold Cup, and trained two NCAA Division I student-athletes. Garabedian was also a top 5 sectional ranked competitor in his youth, sponsored by Wilson and Prince in the 16-and-Under, and 18-and-Under categories from 1969 to 1971.
