Spartans Shutout Griffins to Close 2009 Campaign

Sparkill, NY – (10/31/2009) – The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer season came to a close this afternoon, with a 6-0 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas College. The Spartans held a 2-0 halftime lead and with a 19-9 shot advantage they added four more scores in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) led the Griffins with four shots.

St. Thomas Aquinas College (7-9-1) took the initial lead at 28:53 and they added a second goal just before halftime (44:41) to put the pressure on Chestnut Hill College (3-12-2). Unfortunately, the Spartans connected on four out of ten, second-half shots. Freshman goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ ) totaled four saves but allowed scores to six different Spartans in the loss.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Croce (Mahopac, N.Y.) made six saves and collected the shutout for the Spartans. Freshman forward Daniel Davren (Pearl River, N.Y.) assisted on the opening tally and scored a goal.

The men's soccer team finishes the 2009 season 3-12-2 overall and 1-8-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
