Griffins and Spartans Settle for Scoreless Tie

Sparkill, NY – (10/31/2009) – Each team controlled a half, but neither could find the net and overtime followed as Chestnut Hill College and St. Thomas Aquinas College played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer. Neither side could muster a shot in the first extra frame, and the Spartans were unsuccessful in the final overtime ending the contest in a tie.

In her third start of the season, junior goalkeeper Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, DE ) denied the Spartans through two overtime periods and made 11 saves. The Griffins held a slight 7-6 shot advantage in the opening half and the Spartans turned the tables with a 6-3 shooting edge in the closing period. Freshman forward Jordan Wagner (New Cumberland, PA ) led Chestnut Hill College (11-7-2) with four shots. Three others recorded two shots. Sophomore forward Elizabeth Gronwoldt (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and junior forward Nicole Biolsi (Bronx, N.Y.) each took four shots leading the Spartans' offensive efforts. Senior goalkeeper Jeanette Gibson (Stony Point, N.Y.) made seven saves.

The women's soccer team returns home to host Dominican College in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament. The contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
