Philadelphia, PA – (11/3/2009) – Chestnut Hill College turned the pressure up in the final stretch of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinal against Dominican College. The sixth seeded, Lady Chargers held a 2-0 lead early in the second half. A determined Griffin effort came to fruition on a goal by junior forward
Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ ) midway through the closing period (72:03). The third seeded, Griffins continued to play aggressively, but their closing attempts were unsuccessful as the Lady Chargers advance to the CACC Semifinals with a 2-1 win.
Dominican College (9-5-4) stole the initial momentum taking the first five shots of the affair. Chestnut Hill College (11-8-2) managed to foil the Lady Chargers' advances and deny them through most of the opening half. With less than eight minutes remaining in the first half, freshman defender
Nicolle Sanchez (Lyndhurst, N.J.) took a foul restart in the Griffins' defensive end. Her strike found the far side of the net giving the Lady Chargers a 1-0 lead. With a 15-5 first half shot advantage, the Lady Chargers carried that lead to the break.
Junior midfielder
Margaret Porter (Neptune, N.J.) and freshman forward
Jamilyn Snyder (Lacey, N.J.) continued the Lady Chargers' momentum to the start of the second half. They hooked up at 57:38 extending the Dominican College lead to 2-0. Porter found Snyder on the right flank for a long strike to the back of the Griffin net. Chestnut Hill College immediately responded with refreshed intensity. The Griffins launched several assaults on the Lady Charger defense and eventually found success as freshman midfielder
Jordan Wagner (New Cumberland, PA ) located Riiff through a crowded goalie box for a one-timed goal. With the lead cut to 2-1, the Griffins persistently attacked the Lady Chargers with a 9-7 second-half shot advantage. Unfortunately, the Lady Chargers weathered the storm of Griffin strikes escaping with a narrow 2-1 victory.
Griffin, freshman goalkeeper
Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE ) made six saves in the loss. Senior goalkeeper
Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, N.J.) made four saves and collected the win for Dominican College.
