Philadelphia, PA – (8/27/2009) – Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ ) led the women's soccer team against Lincoln University in this afternoon's contest, as she scored 15 seconds into the affair. She would score three more goals before the end, driving Chestnut Hill College to an 8-0 victory. The Griffins took charge from the opening whistle and out-shot the Lions 24-6. All three Griffin keepers saw time in net to combine for a shutout in the season opener.
Sophomore midfielder Lauren Brown (Dover, DE ) found Riiff for the opening tally and by the 25 minute mark Chestnut Hill College (1-0) owned a 4-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Radetich (Sewell, NJ ), Riiff, and senior forward Julie Treen (Upper Township, NJ ) each deposited unassisted scores to take the pressure off of freshman goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE ). Veazey got the start for the Griffins and recorded one save. She was relieved at the by junior Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, DE ), who took Chestnut Hill College into halftime with a 5-0 lead after freshman midfielder Jordan Wagner (New Cumberland, PA ) added one more before the break.
Lincoln University (0-1) slowed the Griffin offense in the second half, holding Chestnut Hill College to six shots. However, the Griffins scored three more goals in the closing frame to help freshmen goalkeeper Kelsey Feret (Burlington, N.J.) protect the lead. Junior midfielder Tara Morey (Pittsgrove, NJ ) assisted Riiff on the first goal of the second half and she put home the final goal at the 56 minute mark to facilitate the shutout. Feret made two saves.
The women's soccer team will host East Stroudsburg University in their home opener on Sunday, August 30. The contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at the Chestnut Hill College soccer field.
