Philadelphia, PA – (8/28/2009) – With four seconds remaining on the clock, sophomore midfielder Michael Gough (Sicklerville, NJ ) located sophomore midfielder Chris Moore (Berlin, NJ ) at the far post. Moore converted the corner kick to bring Chestnut Hill College even with Concord University at the end of regulation, 1-1. The overtime period was short, but full of fierce competition as the Lions edged out the Griffins for the 2-1 victory with the game-winning tally at 91:59.

Concord University (1-0) took the initial advantage early in the contest on a strike from senior Ryan Grimmett (Rainelle, W. Va.). Chestnut Hill College (0-1) out-shot the Lions in the opening period, but they were unable to break the Lions defense until the final seconds of the affair. Gough lined up for a corner kick with the pressure on and he came through finding the foot of Moore to knot the contest 1-1. Unfortunately, the Lions were able to maintain composure and overcome the Griffins in the extra period. Concord University netted the winning goal 1:59 into overtime, as sophomore Scotty Funston (Orlando, Fla.) buried an unassisted goal from 40 yards out.

Junior forward Anthony O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled four shots to lead the Griffins offensively. Freshman goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ ) made seven saves in the loss. Freshman Jamie Greenwood (Chelmsford, England) started in net for the Lions, recording five saves and the win.

The men's soccer team will return to Holy Family University tomorrow, Saturday, August 30, for a 2:30 p.m. contest against Davis and Elkins College.
