Bloomfield, NJ – (9/12/2009) – Chestnut Hill College and Bloomfield College battled through the rain to sit scoreless at halftime. The Deacons grabbed a two-goal advantage early in the second half of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, but junior defenseman
Maurice Blanton (Bristol, PA ) answered with two converted penalty kicks to knot the affair and force the extra frame. The Griffins squandered a few excellent scoring chances in overtime but were unable to but the Deacons away. The CACC opponents settled for a 2-2 tie after two scoreless overtimes.
Two costly penalties in the box allowed Chestnut Hill College (1-2-1, 0-1-0) the chances it needed to even today's game. Blanton made the Deacon mistakes count; netting his third and fourth penalty kick goals of the season. The contest headed to overtime, where the Griffins looked to ride their momentum to victory. Unfortunately, Bloomfield College (0-4-1, 0-0-1) warded off several Griffin scoring chances to preserve the tie.
The Deacons jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the second half, as sophomore forward
Edwin Ventura (North Bergen, N.J.) struck first with a goal in the 61'st minute on an assist by senior forward
Evans Tageo (Newark, N.J.). Junior midfielder
Andy Aguilar (Bayonne, N.J.) added the second score later on a direct kick from the left sideline.
The men's soccer team continues their CACC schedule with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday, September 17.
