Philadelphia, PA – (9/23/2009) – After taking the initial lead at 6:31, Chestnut Hill College controlled this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest against Goldey-Beacom College. The Griffins used a 23-12 shot advantage to build a 2-1 halftime lead, before winning the conference affair 4-1. With the win, the Griffins guaranteed their best season as members of the CACC.
Chestnut Hill College (6-3, 3-2) got on the scoreboard early, when freshman midfielder
Jordan Wagner (New Cumberland, PA ) rebounded a direct kick from junior forward
Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ ). Just over ten minutes later, Wagner served a lob from the far sideline to the foot of freshman midfielder
Alyssa Radetich (Sewell, NJ ), who put it past freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Vetrano (Ocean, N.J.) for the 2-0 edge. Goldey-Beacom College (0-6, 0-3) narrowed the gap at 30:43 when a lob from midfield located sophomore midfielder
Karin Ericksson (Stockholm, Sweden). Ericksson pushed the ball past freshman goalkeeper
Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE ) to cut the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.
The Griffins wasted little time separating themselves from the Lightning in the second half. An great individual effort from Riiff gave the Griffins a 3-1 lead and the insurance they would need to hold off their opponent at 48:27. Freshman midfielder
Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ ) added a goal on a direct kick at 49:54 making the final 4-1. Veazey and junior goalkeeper
Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, DE ) each recorded one save. Veazey played the opening 62:02 and earned the win. Vetrano made five saves in defeat for the Lightning.
The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule with a trip to Concordia College for a 12:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 26.
