Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/9/2009) – Through scattered showers the Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team engaged New York Institute of Technology in a physical affair. The Griffins made good use of several Bears penalties to earn a 2-1 win; their first of the season. Junior defenseman Maurice Blanton (Bristol, PA ) converted his second penalty kick of the year at 6:44 to give the Griffins an early 1-0 advantage. Freshman midfielder Pat Greer (Philadelphia, PA ) reestablished the Griffins' lead later in the contest to facilitate the win, tapping home a restart from sophomore midfielder Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland ).

Chestnut Hill College (1-2) got an early start on the New York Institute of Technology (2-3) when a Bears foul in their box awarded the Griffins a penalty kick. Blanton attempted the free kick and was successful for the second time this season, giving the Griffins the 1-0 edge. The Griffins defended that lead for 32 minutes, as the Bears would tie the contest off a corner kick opportunity at 38:49. Sophomore forward Farah Toure (Prince George, Md.) managed to put the loose corner restart past freshman goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ ) and bring the contest even at 1-1 heading to the break.

Nearly ten minutes into the second half the Griffins would regain the momentum, as Greer touched home a rebound off a put restart from Reid. Reid's strike was poorly handled by senior goalkeeper Cosimo D'Agostino (Brampton, Ontario), and Greer need only to tap the rebound home to put the Griffins back ahead 2-1. Junior goalkeeper P.J Tucker (Woodstown, NJ ) manned the net through the second half for Chestnut Hill College and earned the win while making four saves. Goldstein made two saves in the opening period. D'Agostino took the loss for the Bears and made six saves.

The men's soccer team heads to Bloomfield College to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 12.
