Orangeburg, NY – (10/2/2010) – Chestnut Hill College and Dominican College battled through a scoreless opening half in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, before the Chargers netted two, second-half scores for a 2-0 win. The Chargers fired 20 shots in the second half to overwhelm the Griffins for the conference victory.
The Dominican College (6-3-1, 4-2-1) outshot the Griffins 10-6 in the opening half, but in the second half they doubled their efforts with 20 more. The aggressive play paid off with two, second-half scores. Junior midfielder Alan Heavey (Huntington Station, NY) ended the silence at 56:55 and freshman forward Jorge Zubillaga (Uruguay) added insurance at 64:19, as the Chargers separated from Chestnut Hill College (6-4, 4-2) in the final 45 minutes.
Junior midfielder John Langdon (Bellport, NY) and sophomore forward Alex Rodier (Williamstown, NJ) provided the help on the Charger goals, Rodier led them in shots with seven. Junior goalkeeper Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made three saves in the win (6-3-1).
Freshman midfielder Mushe Wamulume (Media, PA) led the Griffins with three shots and sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made five saves in the loss (6-4).
The men's soccer team returns home join the women's team in hosting a soccer doubleheader at Victory Field #1 on Monday, October 4. The women's contest with kickoff the evening with a 5:00 p.m. start; the men to follow at 7:00 p.m.
