Philadelphia, PA – (10/28/2010) – Sophomore forward Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA) knotted this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at 2-2 in the 84th minute, but the tie only held for 23 seconds as Philadelphia University scored twice in the final seven minutes to defeat Chestnut Hill College 4-2.
With Chestnut Hill College (9-9, 5-7) trailing 2-1 late, 83:11, Essenthier scored a strike from 30 yards out to even the contest for the second time in the second half, 2-2. Unfortunately, the stalemate was short as Philadelphia University (11-5-1, 8-2-1) would retake the advantage with a goal just 23 seconds later, 83:34, 3-2. Junior midfielder Ryan Purnell (Hamilton, Bermuda) put the Rams ahead with his second goal of the contest, before assisting on an insurance tally by sophomore midfielder Sean Crossland (Birkboro, PA) at 88:31, 4-2. Ram freshman goalkeeper Alex Heston (Des Moines, IA) made five saves in the win.
Essenthier also recorded an assist in the contest, finding freshman defenseman Ross Garabedian (Horsham, PA) for his first collegiate goal at 61:54. Garabedian's goal tied the contest for the first time, 1-1, until the Rams took a 2-1 lead at 66:23. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made ten saves in the loss (9-9).
With the conclusion of their regular-season the Griffins finish to 9-9 overall and 5-7 in the CACC, showing tremendous improvement under first-year head coach Keith Cappo.
