Lafayette Hill, PA – (10/28/2010) – Chestnut Hill College led 4-0 at halftime, and defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College 6-0 as they overpowered the Spartans in this evening's season finale at Victory Field #1. The Griffins scored three times in the opening eight minutes and owned a 24-7 shot advantage in the contest.
Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) rebounded her own strike to score the Griffins first tally at 1:25, 1-0. Less than three minutes later (4:09), sophomore forward Alyssa Radetich (Sewell, NJ) landed a cross at the right post for a touch-goal from freshman midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ), 2-0. Radetich scored the third Chestnut Hill College (13-3-2) goal at 7:55, completing a cross from freshman midfielder Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ), 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Alexandria Allizzo (Laurel Springs, NJ) located sophomore midfielder Maggie Faselt (Newtown, NJ) for the final goal of the first half at 23:20, 4-0, before scoring her first goal as a Griffin 30 seconds into the second half. Litty assisted Allizzo on the goal at 45:30, 5-0, and she later hooked up with Riiff at 54:24, 6-0, to collected her third assist of the contest.
Junior forward Elizabeth Gronwoldt (Valley Cottage, NY) record four of seven shots for St. Thomas Aquinas College (1-15) and graduate goalkeeper Jeanette Gibson (Stony Point, NY) made ten saves in the loss.
Riiff totaled seven shots leading the Griffin attack; three others totaled three shots apiece. Sophomore Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) and senior Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, DE) split halves in goal. Veazey earned the win (12-3-2) and made one save in the opening half while Lafferty made two saves in the final 45 minutes.
The women's soccer team finishes their regular season at 13-3-2 and they await their opponent for the Opening Round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament. The Griffins will host their unknown foe at Victory Field #1 in a 2:00 p.m. contest on Monday, November 1.
