Philadelphia, PA – (10/7/2010) – Chestnut Hill College claimed another quality Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory this afternoon with a 3-1 triumph over Philadelphia University. The Lady Rams were first to find goal, but sophomore midfielder Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ) scored heading into, and out of halftime to give Chestnut Hill College the upper hand. Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) accented the win, scoring her ninth goal of the season as insurance.
Philadelphia University (4-4-3, 4-2) seized the initial energy of the affair, but three consecutive Chestnut Hill College (9-1-2, 7-0-1) corner kicks swayed play into the Griffins favor. The Lady Rams survived the peril unscathed and rebounded for a corner kick chance of their own. A scramble in front of the Griffin goal led to a score from freshman midfielder Janine Cascio (King's Park, NY), who put the Lady Rams up 1-0 at 16:54. As play entered the 27th minute, two more Griffin corner kicks generated another scoring threat. This time, Botbyl cashed in, following an initial strike from Riiff to make the score 1-1 (28:33) in the first half.
The Griffins carried the momentum into intermission and they retained it afterwards. Sophomore midfielder Maggie Faselt (Newtown, NJ) located Botbyl for her second goal of the contest, just 5:38 into the second half (50:38), 2-1. The Griffins had a great chance to cushion their lead with a Riiff penalty shot at 67:20. Unfortunately, she did not convert. A minute later (68:26) freshman midfielder Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ) found Riiff, who made up for the previous squandered opportunity with her ninth goal of the season, 3-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) made seven saves and earned the win (8-1-2) for Chestnut Hill College.
The women's soccer team returns to the Chestnut Hill College Campus Field for a CACC contest against Felician College on Saturday, October 9.
