Griffin First Half Grounds Golden Falcons

Philadelphia, PA – (10/9/2010) – Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) got Chestnut Hill College on the scoreboard just eight minutes into this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Griffins would add two more scores before halftime to defeat Felician College 3-0.

 

Chestnut Hill College (10-1-2, 8-0-1) controlled the game from the opening whistle, outshooting Felician College (4-5, 3-3) 17-7 in the first half. The aggressive play paid off at 8:38 when freshman midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) set up Riiff for the first of three Griffin goals. Riiff received the pass at the top of the box and lobbed a strike over the head of junior goalkeeper Shaneil Lorenzo (Dover, NJ) for the tally, 1-0. Riiff looked to add her second goal of the game on an assault in the 37th minute. Lorenzo saved that shot, however, the rebound caromed to freshman forward Brittany Boles (Broomall, PA) who scored the ball for her second collegiate goal, 2-0 (36:31). Chestnut Hill College would score once more before intermission when DiGiovanni found freshman forward Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA) with a cross at 43:04, 3-0.

 

The Griffins settled the tempo following halftime. The Golden Falcons had a couple quality chances at sophomore Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE), but the Griffin goalkeeper was on her game with several acrobatic saves. She held the Golden Falcons at bay for the remainder of the game clock to collect her fourth shutout of the season (9-1-2).

Senior forward Derienne Jacobowitz (Staten Island, NY) and sophomore forward JoJo Pisani (Wyckoff, NJ) combined for nine Golden Falcons 14 shots. Lorenzo took the loss (3-3) while making five saves in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Couzo (Sayreville, NJ) made four saves in the second half.

 

The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 12, when the host Wilmington University in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the Chestnut Hill College Campus Field.
