Caldwell, NJ – (9/11/2010) – A goal from freshman forward Bobby Stocklin (Haddonfield, NJ) tied the affair just 1:48 before halftime and with two more Griffin goals coming in the second half the Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team separated for a 4-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Caldwell College this afternoon. Junior midfielder Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) scored twice, including the game-winner at 52:48.
Caldwell College (1-3, 0-1) held the upper hand for most of the opening half thanks to the precision corner play of freshman midfielder Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, NY). Bistre bookended a goal from Reid with two corners; hitting sophomore forward Facundo Zalazar (Buenos Aires City, Argentina) and senior forward Rob Arena (Sparta, NJ) for headers and the lead, 2-1, at 18:07 and 32:54, respectively. Fortunately, Chestnut Hill College (3-1-0, 1-0) knotted the contest, 2-2, when Stocklin put a deflection from senior midfielder Julian Fernandez (Galloway, NJ) into the Cougar net.
Following the break, the Griffins stole the momentum on a 15-yard strike from Reid. Sophomore forward Ryan Lannutti (Calabasas, CA) crossed the ball from the right side to the foot of Reid for the captain's second goal of the contest and the 3-2 advantage. Insurance came at 86:11 on the effort of sophomore forward Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA), who capitalized on a defensive miscue, 4-2. The Griffins overcame a 19-12 shot deficit and an 11-1 corner margin to start their 2010 conference schedule with victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made six saves and collected the win (3-1-0).
The men's soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Thursday, September 16, when they host Goldey-Beacom College in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Victory Field #1 on the campus of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
