Riiff Rips First of Season in Griffins Third Shutout Victory

Lakewood, NJ – (9/14/2010) – Chestnut Hill College returned from Georgian Court University this evening with a 1-0 victory, narrowly escaping the Lions for their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win. Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute to give the Griffins the advantage and once again, sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) and the defense held on for the shutout.

 

Chestnut Hill College (3-1-1, 2-0) and Georgian Court University (1-2-1, 1-1) stood scoreless at halftime; the Lions owning a 6-2 advantage in shots and the Griffins with the only corner kick opportunity. Play picked up in the second half and just 11:17 into the period sophomore midfielder Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ) fed Riiff for a strike to the top left of the goal. The Lions had two, second-half shots but neither was on goal as the Griffins held on for their second CACC win of the season. Riiff led the Griffins with four shots while Veazey made three saves in the win (3-1-1).

 

Junior goalkeeper Shealyn Sullivan (Buffalo, NY) made two saves and took the loss (1-2-1) for the Lions. Junior forward Candace Seaton (Bellport, NY) recorded a team-high four shots.

 

The women's soccer team returns home and welcomes Concordia College for a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest on Saturday, September 18.
