Wilson Scores Only Goal Needed, As Griffins Top Clippers for Fifth Win

Philadelphia, PA – (9/18/2010) – Just 14:36 into this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, freshman midfielder Chris Wilson (Willow Grove, PA) provided the only tally needed for Chestnut Hill College to defeat Concordia College, 1-0. Wilson gathered a deflection off a free kick and he put it to goal for his first score of the season and the Griffins fifth victory of the year.

The contest was evenly played for the duration, but Wilson's goal figured as the difference. Concordia College (1-4-1, 1-2) held a slight 7-6 shot advantage in the opening half, but Chestnut Hill College (5-1, 3-0) fired five of the first, seven shots resulting in the Wilson tally. The Clippers responded with five of the next six chances, but sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) and the Griffin defense neutralized the threat and held the lead 1-0 heading into intermission.

Following the break, the Griffins pushed the tone with four corner kick opportunities and a 6-5 shooting advantage. Senior Maurice Blanton (Bristol, PA), junior Chris Moore (Berlin, NJ), and freshman Ross Garabedian (Horsham, PA) anchored the Griffin backline and forced several poor shots high and wide, leaving Goldstein with only two saves in his second shutout of the season (5-1).

The men's soccer team travels to Wilmington University on Tuesday, September 21, for their next CACC contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
