Wilmington, DE – (9/22/2010) – Five separate Griffins connected for goals as Chestnut Hill College remained unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 5-2 defeat of Goldey-Beacom College. Sophomores, forward Alyssa Radetich (Sewell, NJ) and midfielder Maggie Faselt (Newtown, NJ) helped the Griffins to a 2-1 halftime lead, before sophomore midfielder Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ) progressed the advantage with a goal and an assist in the second half.
Chestnut Hill College (5-1-1, 4-0) out-shot the Lightning 14-2 in the opening period; resulting in a 2-1 halftime advantage. Radetich was first to score, hooking up with freshman midfielder Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ) on a direct kick at 10:25. Faselt extended the lead to 2-0 when she collected a loose ball at 19:54 for first goal of the season. Goldey-Beacom College (0-5-1, 0-3-1) would get on the scoreboard before halftime, thanks to a penalty kick goal from junior midfielder Karin Eriksson (Stockholm, Sweden). Following the break, Botbyl enlivened the Griffin offense. She first scored an unassisted goal at 67:58 and then assisted freshman forward Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA) on a goal at 75:47. In between, Litty recorded her first collegiate goal on a converted penalty kick (73:20).
The Lightning would score in the final ten minutes (80:59), but the Griffin lead proved insurmountable with sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) earning her fifth win of the season (5-0). Veazey and senior goalkeeper Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, DE) each made one save.
As part of Family Weekend festivities, the women's soccer team returns to Chestnut Hill College Campus Field to join the men's team in a soccer doubleheader with Post University. The CACC contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday, September 25.
