Philadelphia, PA – (9/25/2010) – This afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer game came to a crescendo in the 86th minute, when sophomore forward Ryan Lannutti (Calabasas, CA) located junior forward Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) for a game-winning header. The Griffins defeated Post University 1-0 in the grand finale of Family Weekend.
Chestnut Hill College (6-2, 4-1) and Post University (2-4-1, 2-2) took turns controlling the tempo of the affair. Graduate forward Leslie Ayafor (Lauderhill, FL) led the Eagles with eight strikes, but none of the Eagles 25 shots found goal. The Eagles had a prime opportunity in the 69th minute, as an initial header ricocheted off the post, a second was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ), and a finishing kick sailed wide. The stalemate continued until Lannutti crossed a ball to the head of Reid for a dramatic, game-winning tally.
Sophomore goalkeeper Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) made five saves in the losing effort (2-4-1), while Goldstein made six saves in his third shutout (6-2). Sophomore forwards Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA) and Darryl Richardson (Washington Township, NJ) led the Griffins with three shots apiece.
The men's soccer team breaks from CACC play to host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 6:30 p.m. match at Victory Field #1 on Thursday, September 29.
