Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/28/2010) – Holy Family University was first on the scoreboard, but the advantage was short-lived as senior midfielder Tara Morey (Pittsgrove, NJ) provided the game-tying tally for Chestnut Hill College only five minutes later. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest remained knotted through two overtimes and finished in a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore forward Megan Tole (Philadelphia, PA) was active early and often for Holy Family University (3-4-1, 2-2-1); her effort finally paid-off at 52:28 when she scored a rebound off the left post. The Tigers controlled the ball for most of the affair, owning a 19-9 shot advantage and keeping the Griffins on their heels. Following a scoreless opening half, Tole capitalized on an early barrage of Tiger strikes. A shot from junior midfielder Lindsay Fisher (Oakford, PA) bounced off the left post a fell to Tole's feet. She crossed back into the net to earn the Tigers an initial 1-0 lead.
Just five minutes later (57:50), Chestnut Hill College (6-1-2, 5-0-1) answered. Sophomore defender Shannon Catts (Elmer, NJ) landed a Griffin throw-in at the far side of the box, Morey captured the loose ball and struck it to goal; knotting the affair at 1-1. Unfazed, the Tigers continued to pressure the Griffins for the next 52:10, but a hard-working backline allowed the home team to sustain par. Freshmen Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA) and Lauren Nolte (Wilmington, DE) joined junior Lauren Brown (Dover, DE) and Catts on defense; they combined with sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) to earn the Griffins the tie (6-1-2). Veazey made seven saves.
The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule with a trip to Dominican College on Saturday, October 2. The contest is set for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
