Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/29/2010) – St. Thomas Aquinas College was awarded the early momentum this evening, scoring on an own goal just 1:11 into the affair. Chestnut Hill College had difficulty recovering as the Spartans left Victory Field #1 with a 3-0 win over the Griffins. Sophomore forward Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA) led the Griffins with three shots.
St. Thomas Aquinas College (8-0-1) advanced the ball into the Chestnut Hill College (6-3) box shortly after the opening whistle. A deep Spartan throw from senior midfielder Kurt Schuler (Tuxedo, NY) clear all awaiting heads but skipped off the finger tips of sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) to land the visiting team a 1-0 lead at 1:11. The Griffins and Spartans exchanged assaults over the next 20 minutes, but at 22:19 junior midfielder Remmington Lee (Hopewell Jct., NY) recovered a loose ball and extended the margin to 2-0.
Chestnut Hill College came out refocused in the second half, but the Spartan would score once more before the Griffins had their best opportunity to score. Essenthier served consecutive corner kicks in the 75th minute, but the Griffins could not capitalize on the opportunity. Goldstein made two saves in the loss (6-3).
The men's soccer team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Dominican College on Saturday, October 2.
