Griffins Grind Out Tie at Bloomsburg University

Bloomsburg, PA – (9/9/2010) – In 110 minutes of soccer, Bloomsburg University outshot Chestnut Hill College 19-2, but the Griffins were efficient with their chances and they earned a 1-1, tie against the Huskies. Freshman midfielder Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ) tied the contest with her first collegiate goal at 69:28 and sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) led the defense in a final forty minutes of scoreless play.

 

After a scoreless first half, Bloomsburg University (1-0-1) grabbed the upper hand when sophomore midfielder Caroline Mountney (Flourtown, PA) and senior forward Kelsey Stoka (Langhorne, PA) teamed for a goal just 1:20 into the second frame. The Huskies outshot the Griffins 10-1 from that point on, but at 69:28 Pizarro scored that lone shot to knot the contest at 1-1. The Huskies took seven more shots through the end of regulation and two overtimes, but Veazey and the Chestnut Hill College (1-1-1) defense held firm. Freshman midfielder Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ) recorded the other Griffin shot and Veazey totaled seven saves in the tie   (1-1-1). Junior goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ) made one save for the Huskies.

 

The women's soccer team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) next with a trip to Caldwell College. The Griffins and Cougars kickoff at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
