Box Score Lafayette Hill, PA – (10/22/2011) – Chestnut Hill College was the aggressor in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, but despite a 17-8 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks Dominican College wound up as the victor, 1-0. During opening announcements, the Griffins recognized Co-Captains, forward
Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) and defender
Lauren Brown (Camden, DE), as part of annual Senior Day celebrations.
Riiff fired all six, first-half shots for Chestnut Hill College (7-8-0, 5-5-0), but a strong defensive performance by Dominican College (6-6-1, 5-4-1) pushed many Griffin shots high and wide. The contest entered intermission in a scoreless tie, 0-0, leaving the decision to the closing period. Only 8:13 after the start of the second half, sophomore forward Olivia Antonopoulos (Baldwin, NY) gave the Lady Chargers a 1-0 advantage with a strike that just clear the fingertips of Griffin junior goalkeeper
Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE). The Lady Charger lead would hold to the final horn and reward the visitors with victory.
Antonopoulos finished the affair with five shots and the only goal of the afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hertz (Voorhees, NJ) made three saves in the Lady Charges winning effort.
Riiff totaled eight shots for the Griffins and she was supported by three shots from sophomore forward
Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA). Veazey recorded one save in the loss. Brown is a two-time All-CACC performer who earned the team's Coach's Award in 2009 and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 2010. Riiff is the program's all-time leader in goals (50), points (118), and shots (290). She is a three-time All-CACC selection, including the conference's Player of the Year in 2009. That same year, Riiff was recognized as the team's MVP and a
Daktronics All-East Region performer.
The women's soccer team continues their CACC contest tomorrow, Sunday, October 23, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Concordia College (NY).
