Box Score Purchase, NY – (10/23/2011) – Concordia College (NY) owned a 3-0 halftime lead thanks to three early first-half goals, before defeating Chestnut Hill College 5-2 in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Forwards, senior
Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) and sophomore
Mushe Wamulume (Philadelphia, PA) accounted for the Griffins second-half scoring.
Concordia College (3-12-0, 3-7-0) took the upper hand in what would be a physical affair, as the Clippers netted two scores before the caution cards began to show. The Clippers scored off a throw in at 7:17 and a penalty kick at 11:57, frustrating Chestnut Hill College (5-9-1, 3-6-0). With the 2-0 advantage, the Clipper struck again on a free kick at 17:26 to carry a 3-0 lead to intermission. Just 29 second after the break (45:29), they added another goal to leave the Griffins behind a 4-0 deficit. Reid looked to spark a rally with an unassisted tally at 49:56, but the effort was all for not as the Griffins could only match the Clippers the rest of the way, 5-2. In all, 12 penalty cards were issued.
Senior midfielder Richard Heredia (Long Island, NY) led the Clippers with a hat trick and freshman goalkeeper Paul Wavell (London, England) made four saves in the win.
Freshman forward
Pat Steger (La Plata, MD) led the Griffins with eight shots, but Reid and Wamulume were the only Griffins to find goal. Junior goalkeeper
Mike Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made six saves in the loss (4-6-1).
The men's soccer team returns home to host a 7:00 p.m. CACC contest against Philadelphia University on Tuesday, October 25.
