Box Score
Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/1/2011) – Junior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) was impenetrable in the opening half against West Chester University, however, the persistence of the Golden Rams would pay-off as four second-half goals pushed them past Chestnut Hill College, 4-0, in this evening's season opener. Sophomore forward Kim Shoup (Berwyn, PA) led the Golden Rams to victory with the contest first tally and an assist.

The West Chester University (1-0) attack came early and often, but Veazey was outstanding in the opening frame. Just over two minutes after the opening kickoff, the first Golden Ram shot was fired and denied, and then another. They were able to keep the pressure on Chestnut Hill College (0-1) with several corner kick opportunities, but the Golden Rams were denied any advantage thanks to Veazey's stellar play.

The contest went to intermission in a 0-0 tie, but the Golden Rams took to the field with focus in the second half. Shoup scored the first, and eventual game-winning, goal off her own rebound to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead at 48:51. The next strike came just 44 seconds later (49:35), 2-0, and the Griffins were quickly behind a 2-0 deficit. Senior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) did all she could to motivate the Griffin offense; she found junior forward Lyss Radetich (Sewell, NJ) for the Griffins best scoring opportunity, and took four shots of her own, but had no success. Freshman goalkeeper Shannon Fedyk (Hummelstown, PA) made two saves and earned the win for the Golden Rams, while Veazey totaled 11 saves in defeat (0-1).

The women's soccer team resumes play on Saturday, September 3, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Millersville University.
